Periodic rainfall is expected in Fiji between April and September, said the Fiji Meteorological Service in its latest Fiji Climate Outlook that was released last Friday.

The weather office said during this time rainfall was likely to be normal or above normal across the Fiji Group.

“For April to June 2022 period, normal or above normal rainfall is likely across the Fiji Group,” Fiji Met said.

“During July to September 2022 period, there is almost equal chances of below normal, normal and above normal rainfall across the Fiji Group.”

Fiji Met states La Niña continues to persist in the tropical Pacific Ocean.

“The majority of surveyed climate models suggest this La Niña event have passed its peak, with a return to neutral ENSO values by May to July 2022 period.”

“Fiji typically experiences above normal rainfall during a La-Niña event, with increasing risk of flooding, especially during the wet season.”
