Perfect platform for team

COACH Gareth Baber believes winning the Hong Kong 7s title will be a good buildup for the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team heading to the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Baber said the team had discussed this and felt the mecca of sevens would be the perfect platform for the team when they leave for Gold Coast, Australia.

“We talked hard about that (winning in Hong Kong)… about what it means to do the two tournaments back to back,” the Welshman said after the team’s captains’s run at the Causeway Bay Sports Ground yesterday.

“The reality or goal is that if we win Hong Kong it will lift the players.

“They will know their game is on top where it needs to be.

“It gives us the opportunity to go use that at the Commonwealth Games.”

Baber said it was not everybody’s strategy but it was the one they had adopted and the one they are going with.

Fiji will face Samoa in its opening game tonight before facing New Zealand and Russia in the other pool matches tomorrow.
