People pay their last respects to Tui Nawaka

The vanua o Nawaka came to a standstill yesterday as villagers and family members gathered to pay their last respects to the late Tui Nawaka, Ratu Asaeli Driu Naevo.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life attended the funeral service and emotions ran high when eulogies were delivered to honour the life of the chief and traditional leader who was well liked and respected by many. Among the mourners were SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka,

The Peoples Alliance party leader Sitiveni Rabuka, member of Parliament and Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa, Opposition member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya and Marama Taukei Naua and FijiFirst party president Adi Tema Sovau Varo.

The late chief was a former student of Ratu Navula Secondary School and worked for more than 20 years in the tourism sector.

He was also a strong supporter of Nadi rugby. He was installed eight years ago and passed away last Monday after a short illness.
