THE villagers of Vatani and Dromuna on Kaba Island in Bau, Tailevu, will soon cease paying a boat fare of $160 to reach their respective villages on a daily basis.

This after Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate confirmed in an interview in Nakasi that the Kiuva-Kaba Peninsula Road would be completed soon.

The road now connects the island to the mainland where villagers would be able to travel to and fro by bus or other modes of transport on land.

Vatani Village headman Watisoni Bale said it would cost them $27 to get to their villages once the road was completed.

“We want to thank the Government for their assistance because this is something we have been waiting for over past decades because paying $160 in boat fare was a challenge for us and travelling for an hour to reach Nakelo before boarding the bus to Nausori town,” Mr Bale said.
