Pearls not shining

IT will be an uphill battle for the Fiji Pearls in their third match of the 2018 Commonwealth Games against Australia, says coach Vicki Wilson.

Fiji Pearls was beaten by Barbados 65-44 on Sunday at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gold Coast, Australia.

Fiji started the first quarter on a high as they led their opponents 12-9, however, the team lost its grip on the lead and trailed Barbados 11-17, 23-26 and 44-65 in the other second, third and fourth quarters.

“I was disappointed with the game against Barbados with the way it ended with only six players after Episake Kahatoka was sent off.” she said.

“We will have to make sure we have the discipline in the team. The players also have to make better decisions on the court as well.”

Fiji had their second consecutive loss in the tournament after losing to Jamaica in its first game.

“We could have tried a lot of easier balls and we paid ultimate price for not making good decisions by our players,” she said.

“We are anticipating a fast match against Australia.”
