Jack’s Dream to pay Mum’s Sacrifice

A MAN’S achievements are made possible by the support and work of a woman and the adage behind every great man is a great woman rings true for Jack Volavola.

The police officer from Nadroga helped his Police side to a famous 19-11 victory over the Army during the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl rugby competition at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The fullback dedicated his man of the match performance to his mother, who he says has been the biggest supporter of his rugby career.

Following in the footsteps of his uncles, Volavola proved to be the game spoiler in Friday’s annual contest between the two disciplined forces.

Volavola, the nephew of Timoci who is the assistant coach of the Fijiana 7s team, copped a yellow card but scored 11 of his team’s 19 points.

He was raised by his mother and said he played rugby with an aim to repay all what she had done for him.

“I want to dedicate this win and my player of the match award to my mother,” Volavola said.

“Without her and the help from the Almighty God I will not achieve this.”

He said he had set himself a goal to score an overseas contract.

“Everything will be possible because I believe God will help me.”
