Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has referred The People’s Alliance party to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for probable breach of Section 116(3)(c) and 4(d) of the Electoral Act 2014.

In a media release, Mr Saneem said a statement posted on The People’s Alliance Facebook page by one of the party’s provisional candidates might be in direct breach of the law.

“The statement by Ms Liliana Warid commemorating World’s Indigenous People contained statements that may amount to racial vilification,” he said.

Mr Saneem said the Fijian Elections Office reminded all political parties and their representatives to ensure that the information they conveyed to members of the public was compliant with all relevant laws in place for a free and fair 2022 General Election.
