Party in talks for a coalition

THE Freedom Alliance party will confirm whether they will merge with another party in the next two to three days.
This was confirmed by party leader Jagath Karunaratne during the issuance of the Writ of Election this morning at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
“We have finalised 38 candidates so far and we will fill in the rest as well but at the same time we have been having ongoing discussions with the other parties with the view that we can come to some sort of an arrangement for a partnership or a coalition,” said Mr Karunaratne.
Mr Karunaratne said now they can have a clear schedule of planning their events and getting everybody mould in it.
He said under a true democracy they expected the writ of election to be issued or an indication on when the elections would be, to be announced much earlier than this as this gives them only 44 days to do everything.
“Almost all the parties had been campaigning despite the fact that they did not know the exact dates of the election,” said Mr Karunaratne.
When asked by this newspaper on how the current court case against him would affect his campaign he said he has been an accused for many years and the for months the stigma has been there.
He said it would not affect his campaign as it has not affected him personally.
