POLITICAL party agents will have access to the packing facility for pre-poll material and elections day ballot boxes, says Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

He highlighted this during a mock exercise on the packing of sensitive materials held at the Fijian Elections Office warehouse at Laucala Beach in Nasinu yesterday.

Some of the materials include a tracking form, labels, ballot box seals, voter list, secret envelope for pre-polls and ballot paper books.

Mr Saneem said the Fijian Elections Office would begin packing pre-poll materials straight after the ballot papers were printed.

“At this point in time we are allowing party agents to go to a packed ballot box to record details from this ballot box so that they can use that information for their own tracking mechanism,” Mr Saneem said.

He said parties must ensure that they quickly noted down the information in order not to delay the process for the FEO.

“The FEO has a very thorough secure mechanism of tracking ballot boxes and we are confident that with this mechanism, the ballot boxes will be fully reconcilable and present for us for verification,” he said.
