Parliamentarians play an essential role in health: Dr Luveni

PARLIAMENTARIANS play an essential role in health by enacting legislation, approving budgets and mobilizing resources, providing oversights to ensure government accountability and transparency.

This was highlighted by the Speaker the of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni during the Fourth Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentarian Forum on Global Health in Manila Philippines.

She said that these values will ensure the achievement of tangible results and these can be reported in the next forum.

The meeting was attended by over 50 parliamentarians from 21 Asia-Pacific countries.

Dr Luveni said that this forum gives the parliamentarians an opportunity to exchange views, provide political assistance, enhance their capacity and develop collaboration with the aim of ensuring sustainable activity of the health sector.
