A BILL that will put in place monitoring mechanisms for sex offenders and limit access of sex offenders to employment dealing with children and women is expected to be debated in a future Parliament sitting.
Speaking on the Registration of Sex Offenders Bill 2018 in Parliament yesterday, Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights chair Alvick Maharaj said our society was plagued with the problem of constant growth in crime.
Therefore, he said, Government had introduced the Bill as a means of addressing the growing problem of sexual offences and to protect the public from sex predators.
In November 2018, the Bill he said was tabled before the committee for scrutiny and a report to be tabled in Parliament.
If enacted, it will allow the creation of a sex offenders register, whereby sex offenders will be registered.
