NEWLY-appointed Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau was accorded a traditional welcome ceremony in Parliament on Friday.
He reminded staff of the parliament secretariat that they played an important role.
“You’ve been here longer than I am. You know what the requirements are of this great office as we look after the legislators of our country,” Ratu Epeli said.
“They make the laws that will affect the lives of all the people in Fiji. It means that we need to do our work thoroughly, be efficient and be on time in everything that we do,” he added.
Acting secretary general to Parliament Viniana Namosimalua said Ratu Epeli was one who had reached the pinnacle of leadership in Fiji as a former president and as Speaker of Parliament.
“It is indeed a great honour for the department to have a leader of such calibre,” Mrs Namosimalua said.
