MOST rural dwellers are now receiving education about how Parliament works through the Parliament bus program , which visits rural communities often.
During one of its routine trip to villages in Savusavu, the villagers were excited to learn of the roles of the parliamentary committees.
A statement issued by Parliament stated the program visited Laucala Village, Korotasere and Vanuavou all in Savusavu, including three secondary schools – Ratu Luke Memorial School, Uluivalili College and Saqani Secondary School.
Samuela Qolikoro, 65, of Laucala Village said the program was very informative.
“We agree that we hear radio announcements and read in the newspapers about the committees visiting our area, but we do not understand how important their work is and the role we have to play with respect to their visit,” Mr Qolikoro said.
“After this presentation, we now realise that it is important to gather our views in the village and take it to the committee when they visit our area.”
