THE parliament belongs to the people and they will decide who gets to sit in parliament.

Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni said this during the issuing of the Writ of Election at the Grand Pacific Hotel this morning.

Dr Luveni stressed that the people have a role to play in the elections.

She said now that the writ of elections has been announced a lot of people like the politicians and candidates that still want a confirmation of their candidature are happy to know the definite date of elections.

Dr Luveni said the ball is going to be rolling even faster and stronger now and says 44 days is enough for the parties to prepare for elections because they have been doing a lot of work well before this.

She adds now they will come forward with their specific candidates that will really be moving around to say I am a candidate.

“We will make our own decisions based on what we see on the ground and what is happening, of course elections has to do with parties and their manifesto and what they promise to do,” she said.

Dr Luveni has encouraged people to vote for their leaders in this election.
