STOP blaming everyone else and take responsibility of your children’s behaviour.

This was the message from Education Minister Rosy Akbar to parents during the commissioning of the $3.2 million refurbishment of Penang Sangam Primary and Penang Sangam High School, Rakiraki, last week.

“Parents play a very important role in the education system,” she said.

“We have to work together, when something happens, they quickly blame the teachers, when something happens they quickly blame the head of school, when something happens they quickly blame the Education Ministry or the Education Minister.

“I have said it many times, let’s stop that.

“Let us all take responsibility for our children – for their welfare, education, safety, everything and anything starting from little children in kindergarten to those in primary school,
those in secondary school and those who go to upper tertiary education.

“Parental responsibility should always remain parental responsibility.”

Ms Akbar also called on teachers to be more vigilant because of the complex issues facing students.

“Students’ attitudes are changing, the behaviour of students is changing, the expectations of our community is changing.

“So during your time with the students, be extra vigilant, try to understand your students, pick out behaviour that you think is abnormal and address it and I am sure you are well versed with your training to do that.”
