PARENTS of children from Matokana Village on Ono-i-Lau are now fundraising to build a dormitory for their children who attend Ono Levu District School.

Matokana villager and school manager Solomone Colati said 14 students from the school were from Matokana and they left home as early as 6.30am daily, trekking through the bushes to get to school.

Mr Colati said through the commitment of parents, they managed to build a structure at the school compound but needed beds and mattresses to make it comfortable for the children.

“The parents of these 14 children have been divided into groups and they are responsible for their meals,” Mr Colati said.

“Right now they have mattresses but it would be nice if they can have beds.”

Matokana is located on the same island as Nukuni and Lovoni on Ono-i-Lau.
