Overseas lawyer to take up case of Canadian national facing drug charges

The case of a Canadian national facing charges of being in possession of $30million worth of illicit drugs was called this morning at the High Court in Suva.

Joshua Aziz Rahman appeared before judge Justice Daniel Goundar. He  is alleged to have had in his possession 39.5 kilograms of cocaine last year.

Defence lawyer Neil Shivam told court that they were in talks with an overseas lawyer from Australian to take up the case and requested time from the court until July to check on the same.

Mr Shivam also told court that a Plan B was in place if the overseas lawyer was not able to make it.

The trial was supposed to begin  from April 27 this year for two weeks, however, it got vacated.

Mr Rahman has been remanded.

The case has been adjourned to July 13.
