Secondary school students could be sitting for only two exams each year.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar said there would be a major overhaul of the examination system in secondary schools.

She said they wanted to do away with the end of Term examinations.

“We want to review Social Science and basically the entire curriculum including reducing the number of exams,” she said. “I know in secondary school we have Term 1, Term 2, Term 3 exams.

“We want to move away from that and just have mid-year exam and annual exam.

“That’s it, just two exams.”

She said the reason for the major change was because of the short amount of time given to students to learn within each Term.

“So we will just have two exams in the secondary school.”
