GUESTS and staff of the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort joined forces earlier this week to celebrate Ozone Day by planting corals near the resort’s famous lagoon.

Guests were treated to an information session by staff before venturing out to place new corals along the resort’s foreshore.

The Coral Coast property marks Ozone Day each year after launching the initiative three years ago.

The global conservation program is marked by every Outrigger property in Fiji including Castaway Island Resort.

According to the resort, the initiative allows for collaborative work between conservation partners including the Mamanuca Environment Society.

“Ozone is an action plan that charts a clear course for Outrigger to make a positive impact in helping to save and protect coral reefs and ultimately the wellness of waters around the world,” said Outrigger Enterprises Group corporate communications vice president Bitsy Kelley during the launch of the program.

The inspiration of Ozone Day came from former Castaway Island Resort owner Geoffrey Shaw who encouraged the participation of guests and staff in the protection of coral reefs.
