Mistakes from the Fijian Drua players helped the Crusaders put up a big score in their Super Rugby Pacific match in Christchurch last night. The home side scored nine tries to the Drua’s none in a 61-3 drubbing.
Fijian Drua captain Nemani Nagusa said while his players gave their best shot, mistakes cost them the match.
“Definitely not our night tonight. Main thing for us was to learn as much as possible,” Nagusa said.
“The Crusaders are a champion side. Just told the boys tonight to go out and execute everything we have learnt. Playing against the Crusaders, we missed out on a few opportunities and we had to pay for that.”
Nagusa said they tried to match the physicality of the Crusaders up front.
“We told the boys to give their best shot, especially trying to match them upfront physically.
“There’s something we have as a natural talent, that’s our physicality but we made some mistakes and we can’t afford to make those mistakes against a team like the Crusaders.”
Nagusa and the Drua will regather and will now prepare for their last match of the season against the Chiefs in Lautoka next Saturday.
The Drua lost a number of players due to injury heading into the match against the Crusaders and some are likely to be available to play against the Chiefs.
The Drua host the Chiefs at 3pm.
