THE Island Chill Suva Marathon on Saturday in the Capital City has a new five kilometre race. Held annually since 2014, the number of participants increase each year. Last year 100 corporate teams across the country took part in the event.

The added 5km course should enable everyone to take part in the event, Suva Marathon Club president Gina Houng Lee said.

“In 2019 we added a 5km run so there is no excuse not to participate,” she said.

“Everyone can run 5km with a bit of training and if you’ve not trained, join us and walk it! And train for the next one.”

About 1500 runners took to the Suva seawall as part of the individual full and half marathons, the team marathon and the 10km fun run in 2018.

Held in July each year the Island Chill Suva Marathon and the half marathon are officially certified by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) and AIMS. Corporate teams are also taking part in the race this year in efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle.

General manger for People & Culture Banuve Yalimaiwai said; “We take the health and wellbeing of our employees seriously and continuously encourage activities that encompass better health.

“Our people are our greatest assets, and a happy, healthy workforce is essential to our business success.”

The event includes the full marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon, team marathon and the 5km fun run.
