OPPOSITION MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau has questioned the allocation of $200,000 to the military for a dress code review and visiting dignitaries.

He said this allocation was too high.

“Approximately how much would be spent per dignitary or per mission, and the dress code review which is $100,000, is that for a review of uniform because it sounds expensive to me for a dress code review,” he said in Parliament on Wednesday.

Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu said the RFMF Commander hosted a lot of visiting dignitaries and performed ceremonial duties which was why the military needed a budget for visiting dignitaries.

“The dress code, the RFMF has a lot of different kinds of dress under the dress code: ceremonial dress, field dress, battle gears, et cetera, but this is why this needs to be reviewed so that probably we can have something that is more modern and, of course, economical as well,” he said.
