Opening golf event a success

THE 2018 season opening My Club Day at the Fiji Golf Club course was a tremendous success, according to the Club Captain, Vidhya Lakhan.

“My Club Day has traditionally become a fund-raising event for the club,” Lakhan said.

He very much appreciated the support of corporate members and some club members; financially it was a very successful day.

A record field of 148 golfers graced the well-manicured course and greens at the Vatuwaqa course.

While the weather forecast for the day did not look very promising the day before, the actual day was just fabulous with constant breeze and the clouds keeping the hot sun away most of the time.

All golfers were treated to light lunch before a shot gun start at 12midday. The whole tournament and the day’s activities went without a hitch. Hole sponsors had their respective holes decorated with banners, flags and billboards adding to the atmosphere.

The winner of the Ambrose tournament was the team led by Alipate Vosaicake on 47.625 points.

Runner-up was the team captained by John Aidong on 52 points and in third place was the team led by Tomasi Lovo on 56.13 points. Seven other teams of the top 10 brackets also received prizes.

Club president Ratu Isoa Gavidi officiated at the prize-giving while members were treated to food and drinks with Kulture Entertainers Band led by Georgina Ledua.

Nearest to the pin prizes was collected by Rajesh Raj on 2nd; Tomasi Lovo on 5th; Eroni Saqayalo on 12th and Waqa Bauleka on 16th.

Steven Hazelman’s team was judged the best dressed team.

The evening saw the crowing of following 2017 club champions.

A Grade: Olaf Allen Jr

B Grade: Tevita Delai Liva

C Grade: Alvin Nair.
