Only 1500 fans for title defence

Thomson Park in Navua is expected to be crowded with fans and supporters early on Saturday morning for the much anticipated double-header between Naitasiri and Namosi.

The Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor has confirmed that they will only accept the first 1500 spectators due to the COVID-19 precautionary measures that highlights the safety of the public.

“The crowd capacity at Thomson Park is 3500 however we will only allow around 1500 people to enter the premises,” said O’Connor.

As the supporters from the two teams travel to Navua for the much anticipated clash, the FRU has also tightened their security for the safety of the players, officials and the public.

“There will be tight security services from the Fiji Police Force and other security personnel assisting in the welfare and safeguard of the people and players,” he said.

The Naitasiri Rugby Union secretary Jerry Naureure has urged their supporters to buy their tickets early before the match to avoid other circumstances off the field.

“All we have to do is to respect the decision made by the FRU and try to purchase your tickets in advance before they run out,” said Naureure.

Meanwhile, Naitasiri aims to repeat history after they scooped the Farebrother from Namosi in 2018 at Thomson Park however the Nabukebuke side has the advantage of their home crowd to boost the players’ spirits during the match.

This is Namosi’s first title defence after dethroning Nadroga last week.

Entry fee for fans is $15 and a child under the age of 12 is $2.
