Online food delivery services CyberFood Fiji launched a new mobile application to respond to the ever changing and evolving demands and needs of consumers.

This was according to CyberFood managing director Majid Shahzad.

Speaking at the launch on Friday in Suva Mr Shahzad said the CyberFood mobile application would be accessible on both google and apple play stores.

“CyberFood Fiji has always prided itself in technological innovation,” he said.

“As the founder of CyberFood my journey has always been about resilience, especially during the two years of COVID-19.

“I continued to advocate for innovative solutions for businesses to recover from and even thrive after COVID-19.

“Recently I approached like-minded and passionate entrepreneurs to come together in our ritual knowledge sharing and exchange session.

“So we launched the first-ever food entrepreneur talanoa session, sharing recipes for successful collaboration between CyberFood Fiji, Mana Coffee, Rotisserie, Inside Business Advisory and The A Connection.”

Mr Shahzad said changing the traditional mindset of people in Fiji was a challenge.

“From the comfort of your couches and with a few clicks you can simply have food delivered to your doorsteps.

“It is a simple process from choosing the restaurants available on the mobile application to selecting the dish you wish to eat.”

Mr Shahzad acknowledged the support of UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) for the development and launching of the mobile application.

“The support could not have been timely with the mandate to support aggregated payment platforms and encouraging contactless payments.

“I’m truly grateful to UNCDF for partnering and supporting my CyberFood brand.”

According to Mr Shahzad, for those who were struggling with technology CyberFood will still offer a cash payment on delivery option.

“Consumers can also directly pay through Vodafone MPAISA from the cyber food website by placing orders and transferring money from the MPAiSA or Digicel My Cash account to CyberFood.”

Mr Shahzad said with the influx of tourist arrivals, CyberFood in Nadi had witnessed a renewal in appetite for online order and delivery services.

“I’m hoping that the market in the Western Division picks up in the coming months with increased tourist arrivals.”

Mr Shahzad said despite advocating for online payments where debit credit cards and mobile money, majority of customers preferred to pay in cash upon delivery.

“With the launch of this mobile application, we are confident that this might encourage a shift towards digital order for the cyber food app.

“I will continue to be resistant in educating for online payments to my customers and hope that the current effort for the Fiji Government is in promoting a cashless economy will support my advocacy.

“In fact, as seen in most developing nations, a cashless payment system is safer for both customers and businesses.”
