THE 2nd National Conference on Occupational Health and Safety went underway at the Novotel Hotel in Lami today.

In his opening address, Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Parveen Kumar said the demands of an increasingly complex globalised world meant that now more than ever, OHS must be ensured for all.

He said this year’s World OHS day, workers should reflect on what they had done within their organisation in building a positive safety culture at heart.

Mr Kumar also highlighted that Fiji reformed its OHS legislation in the 1990s resulting in the enactment of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.

“We strongly support this idea. We believe that April is the ideal time to have a National Conference on Occupational Health and Safety.”
