Oceans and tides workshop

Update: 4:10PM A WORKSHOP aimed at increasing knowledge, technical capacity, understanding and application of ocean science for improved decision-making and disaster preparedness will begin tomorrow at the University of the South Pacific.

This workshop which will be hosted by Niue
Meteorological Service and facilitated by trainers from the Pacific Community
(SPC) and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology seeks to provide participants
with practical skills and knowledge in oceans and tides monitoring and
prediction – to support the provision of oceans and tides services into the
future. 

The Oceans and Tides workshop will cover ocean
monitoring software, tidal prediction tools, stakeholder engagement and service
development.

Developed and
funded through the Australian Climate and Ocean Support Program in the Pacific
(COSPPac), the first two days of the workshop (March 19 -20) will be held at
the Niue Met Service office and will focus on marine meteorology and technical
skills.

The second
two days (March 21-22) will be held at the USP lecture hall and will include
stakeholder consultation and presentations to better understand ocean data and
information needs in Niue.
