THE Oceania Regional Conservation forum entails a week full of debates, discussions and decisions which will be the input imposed on the 2020 global biodiversity framework.

International Union on the conservation of nature regional director in Oceania Mason Smith highlighted this during the opening of the forum held at the Pacific Islands Secretariat Forum in Suva today.

The forum will be held from July 29-August 3 and Mr Smith said the success of the forum was very much dependent on the input and deliberations of IUCN members and commissions.

“Over the next few days we will be discussing a number of interesting topics each of which is the richest input into the imposed 2020 global biodiversity framework. We must ensure that the collective voice and priorities of the region is heard and considered in these discussions and negotiations.”

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Waterways and Environment Joshua Wycliffe the theme of this year’s forum The Moana, Our Heritage, Our Future resonated very much with this region.

“The Fiji Government through the Ministry of Environment is honored to host this important forum which brings together like-minded individuals to deliberate on ideas,” he said.
