Oceania 7s: Deaf teams to feature in tournament

THE 2019 Oceania Sevens Championship will be the twelfth Oceania Sevens tournament in men’s rugby sevens.

Fifteen men’s and 12 women’s teams with four deaf teams will take part in the three-day tournament that begins on Thursday, November 7, 2019.

Defending men’s division champions Fiji will face New Zealand, Japan Development, New Caledonia and Niue in pool play.

Pool B has Samoa, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Papua New Guinea; while Australia, Tonga, Nauru, American Samoa and Vanuatu make up Pool C.

The Fijiana side is in pool B of the women’s competition which has Nauru, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

New Zealand, Canada, Australia and Japan make up Pool A while PNG, Samoa, Cook Islands and Tonga are in Pool D.

The deaf competition will see a round robin competition between Fiji Naiula, Fiji Totokia, Samoa and Papua New Guinea.

It will serve as the regional qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Sevens and is scheduled to be held at ANZ Stadium in Suva ​from November 7-9.
