The New Zealand prime minister says sports stars must be better as role models during the coronavirus pandemic.

Jacinda Ardern said on Tuesday that the Crusaders team members seen training together at a park in Christchurch on Monday “flies directly in the advice that we’re giving”.

Earlier, New Zealand Rugby’s boss called the Crusaders lockdown breach “unacceptable”, but no disciplinary action will be taken by the franchise.

All Black Richie Mo’unga, along with Sione Havili, Isi Tuungafasi, George Bower and Andrew Makalio, were filmed throwing a ball around at Christchurch’s Malvern Park.

Ardern said they’re relying on everyone to role model the behaviour that’s needed right now, and is asking sports stars to take part in this modelling behaviour.
