NEW Zealand-based players Sharvan Kumar and Krith Kumar have been selected in the 30-member Fiji football squad for the Indonesia tour.
National coach Christophe Gamel said the duo impressed him during the Sanatan tournament in Nadi earlier this month.
“Both are very interesting players,” Gamel said.
“I saw them play in the Sanatan tournament and decided to bring them into the national team.
“I want to see more of them and how they adjust into the national team and if they are able to play according to the system of play which I want.”
Nadi’s Alfred Naicker and Navua’s Manav Permal failed to make it to the squad while Lautoka’s Osea Vakatalesau has forced his way back into the national team.
“Manav has to work hard and he did not play well and he had been missing a few training sessions for Navua.
“He had also not been part of the Navua’s first line-up,” he said.
“As for Alfred, I have got better players who could play well in that position.”
Rewa has eight players selected in the side after their back to back tournament victories in the 2017 Vodafone Fiji FACT and Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.
Veteran goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau with BOG winning goal scorer Iosefo Verevou, Fiji FACT winning goal scorer Samuela Kautoga along with Amani Makoe, Madhwan Goudar, Josateki Tamudu, Epeli Saukuru and midfielder Misaele Draunibaka had been drafted into the extended squad.
Fiji FA president, Rajesh Patel said performance of the national team had been improving.
“Christophe Gamel has decided he will look for the talents and no player who has represented Fiji is cemented unless his performance is up to par and he will need to be consistent in the Fiji team,” Patel said.
“It is a good opportunity for the players to prove themselves and be in the national team.”
Fiji will play Indonesia on September 2.
