THE Fijian Elections Office has assured the public of the accuracy of its data with the number of registered voters in the country totalling 634,120 as of September 17.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the data may be more than the 2017 Census figure, which estimated Fijians 20 years and above to be 551,011.

While the 2017 Census did not specify the number of Fijians aged 18 years and above, the number of Fijians between the ages of 15-19 years total 74,088.

“There are a few problems that come with census data which has to do with people who are not in the country or people who may have been missed out on in terms of data collection, or people who may have actually directly not given data to census because they were rather not at home or not at the location when census officials actually visited them,” Mr Saneem said.

However, he said this would be best answered by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.
