The National Education Summit was not just another ‘talk fest’ says University of Fiji vice chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem.

Professor Shameem said the three day discussions was data driven that showed the need to change and review Fiji’s education sector.

“I was very encouraged by the data provided by the Ministry’s permanent secretary who gave an incredible overview of the status of education in Fiji which we have never really seen before,” said Prof Shameem.

“The program when I first saw it did not give me any reason to believe  that there would be anything than the normal talk fest but I was very surprised and encouraged by the speeches and discussions that have been done at this Summit.

“Yes there is a need to transform Fiji’s education system and we as a tertiary education institution are willing to assist and work with Government on that.”

The Summit ended today.
