Northpole to play Ba club in Futsal carnival

DEFENDING champions Northpole Friends have been drawn with the star studded 4R Electric Ba side for the Island Pacific Apparel Futsal Carnival which will be played at the Nadi Muslim College grounds this weekend.
Fiji Football Association futsal league champions, Dhanji Boys will also have an acid test from APT Boys and FTU.
Red Devils which won the first edition of the carnival in 2014, will face strong contenders, Breeze Marketing Two and Fiji National University students from Lautoka representing Combine Brothers.
A total of 48 teams have been divided into 16 groups, from which the top two will qualify for the round one elimination.
Tournament coordinator Nadeem Mohammed said that no team was coming in to make numbers.
He said the teams would be fighting for the highest futsal prizemoney in the country.
“The cash prizes will be complimented with lucrative trophies, medals and shields, which are sponsored by Bashir Patel of Hai’s Autoport from Canada,” Mohammed said.
Island Pacific Apparel marketing manager Sunil Chand said all teams would be well prepared to showcase their abilities for the growth of futsal in the country.
The carnival will kick off at 9am on Saturday with under-17 matches. The main competition will start at 10am.
The assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar will be the chief guest during the opening ceremony at 2pm.
The event is held in conjunction with Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, incorporating the theme “No Family Violence”.
The winner will get $2000, 15 medals and the late Mohammed Rafiq trophy.
The runner-up will receive $1000, 15 medals and a trophy while losing semi-finalists will get $175 and a shield each.
Free medical check-up will also be available for free.
