Northern Division to feel direct effect on TC Tino

Tropical Cyclone Tino will bring winds of 65km/h with gusts of 95km/h when it cuts through Vanua Levu at daytime tomorrow and into the night as a Category 1 system.

All parts of the Northern Division and islands in the Lau Group will feel the direct effect of TC Tino.

TC Tino will be a Category 1 system by then and based on the threat map, TC Tino will make landfall near the village of Navidamu in Macuata The system is forecasted to exit at Savusavu Bay tomorrow night.

By Saturday afternoon, TC Tino is forecasted to become a Category 2 cyclone after it passes Ono-i-Lau.

A tropical cyclone alert is in force for Rotuma and a heavy rain warning was in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Viti Levu, Lomaiviti Group, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and northern Lau.

The Fiji Meteorological Service said TC Tino could form by tonight when it’s located west of Rotuma.

Rotuma can expect winds of 45km/hr with momentary gusts to 65km/hr from this afternoon which will increase to damaging gale force winds of 65km/hr and momentary gusts to 95km/hr from tonight.

Vanua Levu will start experiencing strong winds and rain from later tonight, according to Fiji Met.
