A three day workshop focussed on the training of swimming instructors in schools is expected to benefit students in schools within Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata.

Officiating at the opening of the workshop which is organised by the Fiji National Sports Commission, Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea said it was a sad fact that drowning was still common in Fiji even though the country was surrounded by water.

Mr Vocea called on participants of the workshop to put their training to use and help save lives by teaching others how to swim.

“You have been selected to be part of this workshop because of your ability to teach, therefore put the lessons you have learnt in the next three days to good use,” he said.

Meanwhile teachers from schools in Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata are part of the workshop.
