Former teacher Kishore Kumar has been ordered by the Suva Magistrates Court to deactivate his Facebook user page and other accounts on any other media until the conclusion of the matter.

The matter was called before chief magistrate Usaia Ratuvili yesterday for bail hearing.

Mr Ratuvili also ordered Mr Kumar not to create any other new account with any other name and to not post at all.

In court, defence lawyer Abhishek Patel told the court they had filed and served their formal bail application to the State.

Police prosecutor Inspector Jiten Singh told the court they had received the bail application yesterday and since circumstances had changed, since Mr Kumar had been allegedly assaulted at the Suva Remand Centre, they would not be objecting to bail.

Mr Singh proposed that Mr Kumar does not interfere with the complainant and also not to further post or make further statements against her on social media.

Mr Patel said the accused had four sureties present when the matter was first called before the court last week, however, the accused had been receiving threats and the sureties were now reluctant and scared to be his sureties.

He also told the court Mr Kumar had another case before the Nasinu Magistrates Court and he had not absconded bail in that matter.

He requested the court if Mr Kumar could be granted bail on his recognition alone, however, Mr Ratuvili declined this and advised him that he needed sureties as this was a case of national interest.

Mr Kumar told the court he had already lodged a police complaint regarding his alleged assault inside the Suva Remand Centre.

He is alleged to be involved in an online attack on National Federation Party parliamentarian Lenora Qereqeretabua by posting live videos on his “Kishore Kumar Publications” Facebook account, labelling her a porn star. Mr Kumar also, as per bail conditions, has to report to the Valelevu Police Station every Saturday between 8am and 6pm. He was released on bail on the sum of $700 non-cash.

The matter has been adjourned to January 11, 2021, for further disclosures.
