The executive chairman of Fiji National Sports Commission has confirmed no official date had been earmarked for sports and recreation activities to recommence in the country.
Peter Mazey said the decision to reconvene sporting activities would be in the “hands” of the Ministry of Health.
“We will strictly adhere to all the MoH directives,” he said.
“Although we had a successful launch of the framework for the resumption of sports and recreational activities in the country last week there are protocols the MoH wants to be stringently abided by so that it’s in tandem with the framework.
“There should be no room for error because the welfare and safety of every Fijian is the cornerstone of the framework.”
Mazey said anyone including the spectators, who were not fully vaccinated with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine would be barred from entering the grounds to either participate or watch any sporting event.
“The rules are simple; no jabs no play. And no jabs no watch! There are some vital information gaps on inserting the MoH alert level descriptions as timelines regarding the documentation of the framework.
“We will adhere to all the relevant directives from the MoH before confirming the actual dates, times and venues for the relevant sporting and recreational events.
“It entirely depends on the MoH regarding the level the country was at and we will act in accordance with their instructions.”
Mazey said the onus fell on the respective national sports organisations (NSO) to readily access the newly-launched framework.
