GRATEFUL mum Luse Korovavala says her four-year-old daughter, Vasenai Ruth Marama, can finally live a pain free childhood after she had underwent open heart surgery at the Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, Nasese.
Ruth, who was born with a hole in her heart, has been living in pain since she was born. “For the last four years we’ve lived a tough life,” Ms Korovavala said.
“It’s been really hard on Ruth, especially because she hasn’t been able to live the life a child should be living. At times she’d be in so much pain and the only thing we could do was take her to CWM (Hospital).”
Ms Korovavala said it came to a point where they thought they would lose Ruth. “At times we would be admitted in the hospital for about two to three weeks because that’s how serious it was.
“We lived in Suva before but because her condition worsened we moved to the village because my husband and I thought it was the environment that was adding to her sickness.”
Ms Korovavala was a teacher by profession but because of her daughter’s condition she had to leave work.
“When we came in last week, Ruth was black in colour but after her surgery I’ve seen a lot of improvement and I am so grateful to Almighty God and the Hearts4Kids team for being able to give my only daughter a second chance.”
