THE Fiji Football Association will not incur any losses for the indefinite postponement of the Digicel Fiji FACT which was scheduled to kick off at the ANZ Stadium in Suva next week.
The group stage of the tournament was scheduled to be played from May 14-16 with the semi-finals and final to be played the following weekend at the same venue.
The postponement was inevitable following the extension of the border lockdown period because of the COVID-19 pandemic community cases.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the postponement of the Fiji FACT should not affect the other major tournaments such as the Punjas Battle of the Giants and the Courts Inter District Championship.
Yusuf said the parent body hasn’t made a decision as to when the Fiji FACT would be rescheduled.
“We are not really making any losses because of the postponement of the Fiji FACT,” he said.
“We had only booked the venue and not moved into the preparation mode for the tournament.
“As soon as the lockdown extension announcement was made we held everything back.
“The dates and the venue for the Punjas Battle of the Giants and the Courts Inter District Championship remains the same. We are just waiting for the government’s directive on the lifting of the sporting restrictions and then will resume with the Digicel Premier League.”
The Punjas BOG group stage is scheduled to be played at Churchill Park, Lautoka from August 16-18 with the semi-finals and final to be held at the same venue from August 24-25.
The Courts IDC is set to take place at the refurbished Govind Park in Ba from October 6-11. |
