CHIEF Justice Anthony Gates has ruled that the appeal case against the former prime minister and Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader Sitiveni Rabuka will not be televised or played on live stream today or on Monday.

Mr Rabuka’s counsel Filimoni Vosarogo raised this issue this morning before the hearing commenced at the High Court in Suva.

Mr Vosarogo said the defence had received a letter from the Chief Registrar asking on whether defence would agree to have the hearing televised.

Justice Gates said he had concurred with the idea to have the hearing televised and also be on live stream but there was a number of conflicting discussion relating to this.

He said this was because he would be delivering his judgment during the blackout period to this year’s general election.

Justice Gates said this was why he decided not to have the hearing televised.
