The National Federation Party (NFP) says the Education Ministry’s online LearningHUB platform is easily accessible to people with means to use the Telecom Fiji Ltd (TFL) network.

NFP leader Prof Biman Prasad said in rolling out the platform earlier this week, the ministry failed to inform Fijians who accessed the internet via the Digicel, Vodafone and Inkk networks on how much accessing the LearningHUB would cost them.

“LearningHUB is free on the TFL network which is mostly used by people with means because it is expensive,” he said.

“The majority of ordinary Fijians would use Digicel and Vodafone and would have to pay for this LearningHUB.

“There is no information on how much internet data is needed and right now, affordability is a major concern.”

Prof Prasad said instead of providing learning material via an expensive medium that was unavailable to all Fijians, the ministry could use easily accessible mediums.

“We can deliver simple lessons for each educational level – mathematics, English, science, history – using an uncomplicated medium like television. “Of course, this is not interactive but it is better than nothing.”

The Education Ministry launched the LearningHUB on Monday.

It stated those accessing it from the TFL network would not incur any internet charges, however, normal internet charges would apply for those accessing it from other networks.

The portal can be accessed through a link available on the ministry’s homepage or directly accessed through https://learninghub.telecom.com.fj/home.
