No drop in cab fares

THE Fiji Taxi Association does not have any plans to reduce fares despite the drop in fuel prices last week.
Association president Mohammed Hafiz said they were grateful to the Government for looking at the fuel price reduction.
“Rest assured that our support is with Government and we want to thank them for looking out for our industry,” he said.
“While there are no plans for taxi fare reduction at this stage, we will be looking into the possibility of increments for our fare.”
According to Mr Hafiz, when the last increment was given to the taxi association, there had been a memorandum of understanding.
“It said that we will not ask for an increase in the next three years. It is now more than three years so we will sit down at our board meeting and do strategic planning.
“A lot of members have invested significantly in order to upgrade our fleet so we need to see how we can get revenue to meet those expenses.”
