THE tropical disturbance located west-northwest of Rotuma poses no direct threat to Fiji at this stage and chances of it developing into a Category One cyclone are low to moderate.
At a media briefing this morning, Director Meteorology Ravin Kumar said Tropical Disturbance 09F was slow moving and expected to pass west of Fiji later this week.
Despite this, the public can expect rain over the next few days.
“As it stands a strong wind warning is in place for Rotuma waters and moderate to fresh northwest winds are expected over land areas,” said Mr Kumar.
“For Fiji, we can expect some rain by Thursday and although there is low chance of this disturbance developing into a cyclone, we should expect some flash flooding in low lying areas,” he added.
Mr Kumar advised the public not to be complacent and keep monitoring the latest weather updates.
