SODELPA MP Simione Rasova told Parliament this week that for two years there had been no development on the Vunisea market in Kadavu.

He said there were new markets almost everywhere but there was no update on Vunisea market.

“Two years ago the Vunisea market was put through to your attention in regard to the UN power,” Mr Rasova said.

He then queried Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar about the issue.

In response, she said the Vunisea marker was the jurisdiction of Suva City Council. She said there are no plans to extend the market because of the land area.

“There is no room for expansion. It is not appropriate for us to spend money unless and until we identify a land,” Ms Kumar said.

“However, based on my last visit, we have made a decision that we will just do a basic renovation until we are able to find a new site for a new market.”
