About 100,000 Fijians have been lifted out of poverty as a direct result of the Bainimarama Government’s nine consecutive years of economic growth and social empowerment initiatives such as free education, equality in employment and the creation of thousands of jobs.

Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum announced this in Parliament yesterday where he also said according to the World Bank, extreme poverty was almost non-existent in Fiji.

He said as a direct result of the unprecedented nine-year growth, Fiji was experiencing the lowest unemployment rate in about 20 years of 24.1 per cent — as per the 2019-2020 Housing Income and Expenditure Survey.
