NGO awaits Police report before it can teenager

SAVE The Children Fiji is awaiting police to release a report before they could assist the 16-year-old boy who was allegedly interrogated by two men who claimed to be military officers on September 23, 2019.

The NGO has clarified its stand after questions were raised on why it had been silent on the issue.

“We have been following what has been reported in the media and on social media,” the NGO stated.

“At this point, the claim is just an allegation and once police ascertain this allegation, then we will work with the Social Welfare department to provide welfare check on the minor.”

In an earlier interview, Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho was the only one mandated to speak on the issue.

On October 10, during the Fiji Day celebrations in Suva, Brig-General Qiliho refused an interview request on the issue when approached by journalists from this newspaper.
