The National Federation Party says any talk about uniting with other political parties to contest the 2022 polls is “irrelevant”.
Party leader Prof Biman Prasad said while the NFP welcomed discussions with other political parties, they would have to be cognizant of the fact that NFP was already in Parliament.
Prof Prasad said the NFP had been meeting with political parties to discuss co-operation and working together.
“We’ve had several meetings with opposition political parties on issues of national importance, on issues with respect to how, as opposition parties, we need to deal with national issues,” he said.
“Those meetings will continue.
“Talk of co-operation and working together are also part of those discussions we have had, not only recently but also in the past since 2014.
“Any discussion must be centred on the fact that the National Federation Party is in Parliament and we are open for discussions with other political parties about national issues we need to deal with together.”
Prof Prasad said meetings were always useful to discuss national issues. However, he said, speculation on the formation of a single party was irrelevant.
“As far as NFP is concerned, we are a party in Parliament right now so any talk of a single party in our view is irrelevant at this stage.”
