THE National Federation Party says it is disappointment with the lack of consultation by the Government and the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) parliamentary caucus in the nomination of the President of Fiji.
Party leader Professor Biman Prasad yesterday revealed that they had supported the reappointment of President Jioji Konrote.
“As far as the National Federation Party is concerned, we made our position very clear as today (yesterday) to show our support if his name came up for the next term.”
Prof Prasad said Government should have had consultations with the Opposition which they had failed to do so.
“This was a great opportunity on the part of the Prime Minister to consult and arrive at a consensus with the Opposition, obviously they choose not to do so, and this is the hall mark of this Government over the last three and half years; there has not been consultation, no dialogue with the Opposition, but we are very happy that the incoming President has been reappointed,” he added.
Mr Konrote was appointed President for a second term in an urgent Parliament sitting yesterday where the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama nominated his name before Parliament and which was unanimously agreed upon.
He will serve the high office for another three years.
