NEWTOWN Rugby Club continued their dominance and kept the Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Football Union Shield for another week after beating Uluinakau Rugby Club 21-16 yesterday at the St Marcellin Primary School grounds in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

Leading at the break by 7-6, Newtown ran in two converted tries to seal the deal.

The challengers also kept the holders on the edge running in two tries after the break but unfortunately unconverted.

“It was everything we expected the match to be and no walk in the park,” said Newtown team manager Ilaitia Mua.

“They stretched us at times but we thank the boys who maintained their composure to secure our sixth consecutive title defence.”

Uluinakau team manager Iliesa Tikotani said they were unlucky to miss out.

“Missed opportunities and just the unlucky bounce of the ball,” Tikotani said.

“I’m happy for the boys they played to the whistle and we congratulate Newtown on a game well played.”

Newtown Rugby Club will defend their title against Tovata Rugby Club next week.
